Show Notes:
If you’re a beginning teacher, you’re living and breathing all the aspects that go with teaching. You’re probably one of the last ones to leave the school and one of the first ones to arrive in the morning. I get it. You have so much to do and I know you want to be the best teacher you possibly can be. But guess what? There’s more to you than just being a teacher.
Finding that balance between work and your personal life can be challenging, and if you’re not succeeding, it’s okay. When I was a beginning teacher, I didn’t have a balance between the two and it’ll be hard to find someone who did. But just because previous beginning teachers didn’t have a balance, doesn’t mean you have to repeat the cycle.
It was important for me to remember that even though teaching is a passion, it’s still a job and not my entire life. Once I came to that realization, I started to conduct myself differently. I made small changes that eventually became a habit that allowed me to achieve a work-life balance.
In today’s episode, I’m sharing 11 practical strategies that will help you with the physical and mental transition between work and home. The physical strategies involve an effective end-of-school day routine, while the mental strategies have you focus on transitioning your mind. Likewise, a big component to achieving any sort of work-life balance is setting boundaries, which I discuss at length. So when you think you need to spend extra time at school instead of at home, remember these strategies and ask yourself, Do I have a life that matters outside this classroom?
I want to help you achieve a work-life balance by giving you tools, resources, strategies, and so much more inside The Classroom Management Club. I help you streamline your classroom management to give you time back in your life and a successful classroom. Once you join the club, you’ll have immediate access to my Classroom Management Reset course I offered at the end of December. So be sure to join today for all the practical resources and another way to achieve your work-life balance.
I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
