Show Notes:

When getting a teaching job, you prepare for the lessons, activities, classroom management, and setting up your classroom, but knowing how to support students experiencing trauma probably wasn’t something you thought about. Speaking to teachers in my Classroom Management Club, a lot of teachers are struggling with trauma-informed teaching and how to effectively support students academically while they’re processing their trauma.

COVID has certainly increased the amount of students who have experienced trauma, but it’s important to know that there are many other ways children have trauma in their lives. And we know it’s impossible to focus on work when your brain is still focused on the trauma, so what can you do as the teacher?

It’s first important that we recognize trauma affects students differently, but there are ways you can get started with trauma-informed teaching in your classroom. You should be encouraged by the 6 things I share because they’re already things you’re doing in your own classroom, but the key is that you’re being consistent, making connections, and teaching valuable conflict resolution skills.

Whether trauma-informed teaching is a new term for you or something you’ve already been practicing, know that we’re all learning how to support and help you on this journey. This is a jam-packed episode that discusses what trauma-informed teaching really is, why it’s important, and how you can get started with this in your classroom right away.

Want more support with trauma-informed teaching through resources, tips, and connections? Make sure to join The Classroom Management Club where our goal is to support teachers like you! Additionally, there’s over 70 resources, trainings, and support from other teachers that are a community that cheers you on as you succeed in the classroom.
