Show Notes:
Well my friends, we have made it to the last episode in our new teacher training series. I want to give beginning teachers, and even veteran teachers who want a classroom reset, helpful information that they can take to start their school year fresh and strong. And wow, have we covered some amazing topics in this series! From classroom themes and managing challenging behaviors to how the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy can help you and so much more.
But instead of providing you with more practical strategies, I wanted to end the series by helping you manage your teacher mindset. The way you feel and the thoughts you have in your mind directly impact how you exist and manage your classroom. This, along with many other reasons, is why it’s so important to think positive thoughts and be in charge of your own happiness.
One of the best ways to manage your teacher mindset is by first understanding the power of mindset. In this episode, I talk about the difference between a fixed and growth mindset, which once you know which one you have, you’re then able to shift your language. A lot of managing a teacher mindset is the language you speak to yourself and the positive self-talk and affirmations you say to yourself. But don’t forget to give yourself grace because it takes time creating a new habit, especially one where you need to be kind to yourself.
Lastly, I provide you with four ways to become more aware of how to manage your teacher mindset. These range from identifying your negative thoughts, replacing them with positive self-talk, learning to take care of yourself, and seeking a support system. I share examples of each step, along with how they directly relate to having an effective classroom and management system. I truly hope this series has been helpful and provided you with useful tools, information, and resources to implement in your classroom in the fall!
I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
