How can I effectively manage my classroom when my students just don’t care about praise or natural consequences? This is a question that so many teachers have. If you’ve found yourself asking this question, it can seem like nothing is working and you aren’t sure what to do next. The good news is that there are things you can do to get your classroom management back on track. 

If you’ve really tried focusing on the positives and giving students praise and you still feel like your students just don’t care, there could be a few things going on. First, if we haven’t committed to finding the positives from the beginning, it can be a harder transition to get students to realize that you truly do care.

Second, you have to believe it is possible for things to be better than they were previously. If you are coming off a bad year, it may take additional time, practice, and some uncomfortableness to pull yourself out of a negative mindset and focus on being more positive.

Finding out the reason our students aren’t responding to our positivity and praise is important to moving forward. We know how important it is to build genuine relationships with our students. Our students need to know we care about them and are interested in knowing them as people. But what steps can we take to start building relationships with our students? 

It is so important that you are international with your efforts in creating a culture of positivity and acceptance right from the start of the school year. In this episode, I am sharing with you five strategies that you can use to build genuine relationships with your students at the beginning of the school year and what practical action steps you can take to implement these strategies. The strategies I am sharing with you can be easily implemented to set you up for successful classroom management!
