Show Notes:

Social-Emotional learning is here to stay and we can expect to see it become a more formal part of our curriculums in the near future. SEL is so incredibly beneficial to our students and incorporating it into the classroom has such a positive impact. But how are you going to find time to add another thing into your already packed schedule? In this episode, I’m sharing eight ways that you can easily incorporate SEL into your classroom.

We know that COVID has had quite an impact on our students in terms of their their social awareness and their behaviors. This makes including social-emotional learning in the classroom even more needed than in years past. Research shows that implementing SEL in the classroom results in a reduction of violence and bullying, increased academic performance, increased ability to manage stress and depression, and students having better attitudes about themselves and school. The proof is there that SEL is incredibly powerful in helping students!

So how can you start implementing social-emotional learning in your classroom in a fun and meaningful way? The good news is that it doesn’t need to be very time consuming or complicated. It can be as simple as having themes for each day of the week, weekly affirmations, or playing uplifting podcasts as students enter the room. Something as simple as including a writing prompt during morning warm-ups or having a class conversation about how they are feeling that day can be so beneficial.

You may still be thinking that it seems like a lot to add into your day, but once you and your students get into the rhythm of including some of these activities into your day to day routines, it should only take about 15 minutes a day to implement and will be so impactful for your students!

If you’re looking for a way to incorporate SEL into your classroom but don’t want to start from scratch, check out the Classroom Management Club.
