Classroom Management Hack: The Reward Monitor

Show Notes:

We have great intentions as teachers, right? We get all inspired and we set up some fantastic whole class reward system inside our classroom. Maybe it's using a caught-ya being good jar and we give our students a marble or a pom pom every time we catch our students following the class rules and routines.

Or, maybe you're using a bingo card to help with your classroom management as a whole class management strategy. By the way, if you want to learn how to use a bingo card as a whole classroom management strategy, you can check it out inside my TPT store.

Whatever classroom management strategy you're using for the whole class, a lot of new teachers tell me that they just have a hard time remembering to use it or to keep up with it. This makes it really difficult for it to be effective if you keep forgetting to use it, right?

So here's this week's hack:

Whether you're using a bingo board, desk pets, or some other incentive in your classroom, you might want to consider adding the class job of “Reward Monitor” to your class job board. The reward monitor's job is to check in with you after each lesson about whether or not the class got a point or a marble or a pom pom in the jar.

Kids are amazing at remembering to do this, especially if they have been appointed to do this special job for you. I mean, who wouldn't love the job of getting to ask the teacher if they've earned a reward after each lesson, right?

And to make it easier for your student to remember to do this, you might even want to give them a little checklist that they can keep taped to their desk each day and check off how many times they've asked you during a day. This is super fun for your kiddos and it will help you to be a lot more consistent with using whatever motivator you are using inside your classroom.

By the way, I've decided to start something super fun inside my TPT store called Dr. Lori’s Dollar Store. I've realized, as I've started recording these hacks for you each week, that I can make it even easier for you to implement these ideas if you have access to simple, downloadable templates for each hack.
