Show Notes:

The end of the school year is always a fun time for teachers because they’re looking forward to summer break. But I also love this time of year because it’s a great time to reflect and think back on how well things flowed or were a struggle this past year. This reason, along with new teachers already thinking about their classrooms in the fall, is why I like to do a special series every spring focused on topics new teachers are especially concerned about. The start of this new series will help new teachers think about their classroom setup in terms of creating not only a beautiful, but functional and efficient space.

It’s natural for teachers to want their classroom to be cute, welcoming, and have a feeling like home, especially since you’re in it the majority of your day. However, those are not the only qualities you want in your classroom. Instead, I want you to think about how you’re using your space to maximize learning opportunities for your students. That's why inside this first episode of the series, I’m sharing three questions I encourage you to ask yourself as you set up or reorganize your classroom.

Inside this episode, we'll take a closer look at several areas of your classroom and consider how you can create spaces are functional while also think through different types of storage you'll need in your classroom. I encourage you to take your time and experiment with different variations until you find what works best for you and your students. Because really, that’s what this is all about - learning what makes you an effective teacher and your students successful.

We all see images of these Pinterest-inspired classrooms and think, Wow, why can’t mine look like that? But in reality, it takes teachers years to accumulate the decor, color-coded storage bins, and perfect layout. And while we want a cute classroom, making sure it’s functional and flows is just as important. I can't wait to dig into this topic and help you start thinking through how you'll create not only a beautiful, but a functional classroom space for you and your lucky students!

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • 3 questions to ask yourself that involve the setup or reorganization of your classroom
  • Why it’s just as important for your classroom to be functional as well as  cute
  • How to ensure your classroom offers a variety of learning opportunities, along with the best ways to organize and store supplies
  • A preview of next week’s episode where I help you think through which classroom theme will be the perfect fit for you

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
