Show Notes:

Raise your hand if you’ve been juggling multiple plates, have taken on responsibility after responsibility, been working too many hours, and feel like you’re been moving at a fast pace for far too long? If your hand is raised, you are not alone. I often ask myself what my audience needs with each podcast episode, and my answer to that question this week was to take a deep breath and rest.

I’m always providing you with ideas and strategies to streamline your classroom management and save you time, but sometimes all that information can be overwhelming, especially if you’re not in the right mindset. So instead of filling your brain with more resources and practical ways to be more effective in your classroom, today, I’m filling your brain with positive thoughts.

You’ve heard me say this before, but our brains are so powerful. Our daily thoughts and mindset truly impact us more than we know or even realize, which I’m going to show you in this episode. I reference Brooke Castillo’s mindset model where she explains that the thoughts going through your mind directly affect how you feel. I take you through an exercise to show you what I mean and how this works.

Since our brains can’t decipher between positive or negative thoughts, or even imagination or reality, we’ve developed a habit of placing negative or unhelpful ideas in our heads without even realizing it. This causes a ripple-effect of how we view and perceive the day. The good news is, we can change it. I’m going to show you how to begin intentionally focusing on changing our minds for the better with positive thoughts that will bring you joy and happiness throughout your day. So if you’re looking to take a breath, slow down, and breathe, you’ve come to the right place.

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • The importance of slowing down and taking a breath and how that can impact your mind, body, and soul
  • A refresher on Brooke Castillo’s mindset model and an exercise to show you proof mind and body are connected
  • The negative habit we’ve developed with our thoughts and ways you can intentionally change it
  • What it means to take a mental break to focus on the good can do for you and those around you
  • The words and encouragement you need to think more positively about yourself

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
