Show Notes:

I love providing teachers with the tools they need to be successful in the classroom. Over the years, I’ve learned that it takes so much more than simply classroom management strategies and engaging lessons to support educators in becoming the teachers they've always dreamed of being. So, one aspect of personal and professional development I’ve dedicated the last few years to is researching and experimenting with mindfulness activities.

Over the past two years, my husband's personsal struggle with lung cancer and subsequent double lung transplant taught me the priceless value of a positive mindset and the role it can play in reducing stress and decreasing anxiety, even in life-threateing situations. Once I truly understood the impact of mindfulness in my own life, I knew this was something that would not only benefit teachers but their students as well.

So, in today’s episode, I’m sharing five easy mindfulness activities for elementary teachers and students. I found I was more likely to implement a mindful activity or technique if it would positively impact my students, which is why I made sure each activity could be done in the quiet moments of your day or as a brain break for your entire class. With each mindful activity, I explain what it is, provide a quick example, and highlight the benefits or what it’s designed to do.

Since you’re all busy teachers, I made sure each mindful technique was quick and easy to implement at any time throughout the school day. At the end of the episode, I even walk you through and model a visualization technique to show you the calm you feel and center yourself after a few short minutes. I truly believe that all the small moments are cumulative, and if you incorporate mindfulness activities in your everyday life, you will reduce your stress, have more positive thoughts, and create more space and grace for yourself in not only your professional life but also your personal life.

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • 5 mindfulness activities you can easily implement in your everyday life, along with your students and in the classroom
  • The positive benefits you will witness when changing your mindset and bringing awareness to your body
  • How to implement these mindfulness activities and ways to incorporate them throughout your day and with your students
  • A visualization technique that I model what it looks like as you experience it and can focus on bringing awareness to your body and centering yourself

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
