Are you ready to say goodbye to blurting, tantrums, and interruptions? These are challenges that every teacher faces and they have only increased in the recent years post-COVID. We’ve all tried things that we thought would help our students with their impulse control, and many times, our efforts simply did not work. But that doesn’t mean that nothing will work.

There are many reasons why children act impulsively and one big reason is that impulse control does not fully develop until young adulthood. That means that it is so important that children are given tools and strategies to help them manage and control their impulses. We cannot expect students to be able to demonstrate impulse control when they have never been taught how to or been given the tools needed for them to be successful with it.  

Whether students lack impulse control because those skills are underdeveloped or whether they are simply excited, frustrated, or not getting enough sleep, there are ways that we can help them with their impulsivity! We have the opportunity to set our classroom up in a way that supports our students in learning impulse control skills. We want our students to be successful and our students want to be as well so I am incredibly excited to share how we can set them up for success!

Believe it or not, we can prevent impulse control problems and teach students the skills to help prevent interruptions by making simple environmental shifts. In this episode, I am sharing seven strategies that actually work to help kids learn the skills they need to control their impulsivity including using schedules, timers, and regular check-ins to set your students up for success. These strategies are so impactful and can be implemented in your classroom right away.
