When Things Don't Go As Planned

Show Notes:

As teachers, we’re natural planners, both professionally and personally. That’s why it gives us immense stress when aspects of our life aren’t planned, so can you imagine what it’s like when things don’t go as you planned them? That brings us to a whole new level of stress.

But what if that unplanned moment brought you clarity? As crazy as that might be, it’s true! I believe that the gifts we need in life are actually revealed when things don’t go as we planned. I have my own personal experience with embracing the unexpected that I'm sharing with you, along with how this idea applies to you and your classroom right now.

Even though we feel confident and relaxed when things are planned, there can be beauty and understanding in the unexpected. However, it’s about learning how to listen for what comes next with one simple statement. This clarifying statement allows you to view this unplanned circumstance as an opportunity to choose a different path, outcome, or situation, which might ultimately be the best thing for you.

It’s in our nature to have all aspects of our classroom and school day planned which even rolls into our personal life. We feel at ease with plans made and have put a lot of thought into them. Except sometimes life throws you a curveball and things don’t go as planned. So when moments like that happen in your life, take a moment to listen and pay attention to what comes up.

My own unexpected plans led me to my next adventure, which is writing a book to help teachers prepare for the school year. I believe we learn best from each other and their experiences, so I’d love for you to send me your teaching story for an opportunity to have it featured in the book. You can submit your story through this form.
