Show Notes:
Last week, I shared a fantastic hallway behavior hack that I've been getting rave reviews about from teachers. If you loved that one, you're going to absolutely love this one too. It's just another option for you if you want to switch things up, or try something a little different to see which strategy your students respond to best.
Here's how it works. First of all, every child has an assigned number that you can use for a lot of different things in your classroom. In this case, we're going to be assigning one number to each student for fantastic hallway behavior.
Before you walk down the hall, put a number in your pocket. Then when you get back to your classroom, you pull that number. If you never had to speak to that child while you were in the hallway, they get to choose something special from your class treasure chest!
If you don't have a treasure chest, the child can get a water bottle sticker, a piece of candy, or whatever you have on hand that you can give to them as something special.
If you pull a child’s number who was being chatty in the halls, you can just say, “Sorry, the student’s number who I pulled did not have fantastic hallway behavior”. You don’t have to name who the student was - just keep it a secret!
That’s it! Another quick and easy hack for how you can help your students to walk quietly in the halls.
I hope that you've signed up for my masterclass, Four Secrets to Success in Your First Years of Teaching. We're going to talk all about what you can do this summer to ensure that you're ready for the school year.
When you sign up for the masterclass, you’re going to get some amazing goodies for showing up live, including a one hour PD certificate and free resources that you can use in the first week of the school year. You’ll also get access to a private pop up group on Facebook, where I'm giving away daily prizes of books that you can use in your classroom in the first weeks of school.
Best of all, you can be entered to win our grand prize of a MacBook Air computer. Yes, seriously! You really don't want to miss it.

I've realized, as I've started recording these hacks for you each week, that I can make it even easier for you to implement many of these ideas if you have access to simple, downloadable templates for many of the hacks.
So when you check out my Dr. Lori's Dollar Store, you're going to see that I'm creating very simple templates for you to grab and go with for only a dollar each. Then you can implement these hacks quickly and easily inside your classroom (as soon as tomorrow!).
I would love to know what you think about these classroom management hack mini episodes. It would mean so much to me if you would take a screenshot of this episode and tag me on Instagram @beginningteachertalk because I’d love to know – have you tried this hack in your classroom? How did it work for you?
Finally, if you need help with streamlining your classroom management right away, you also might want to check out my Chaos to Confidence Classroom Management System because classroom management isn’t just about tips and tricks or the latest trend. Instead, it’s about learning from someone who’s been where you are and figured it out.
I tested all my methods on MYSELF in my own classroom first over 10 years – because I’m not about to recommend ANYTHING that I haven’t personally seen work with kids firsthand.
It's never too late to make the changes you need to in order to get your classroom running the way that you want it to, and I'll show you how inside Chaos to Confidence and give you the resources you’ll need to make it happen.
I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
