Show Notes:

We have so many things on our plates as teachers that it’s hard to imagine adding one more thing, despite its importance. But when you understand its benefits and the steps to take for effectiveness, you realize it’s something you need to start doing or do more of. So what am I referring to? Data-driven instruction.

Even though this term 'data' is mentioned a lot in education, there are still some questions surrounding it. To help get you more informed, I’m providing a brief overview on data driven instruction and highlighting the importance and ways to effectively use it in your classroom.

Beyond its background information, teachers need direct and simple ways on how to use data to drive instruction. To do so, I discuss the three types of data and how they can be used in your classroom, along with three ways to efficiently collect data. It’s important to have these tools so you can begin to understand and analyze all of the data you collect. Plus, I share what you should look for in order to adjust and drive your instruction.

Collecting student data is more than numbers on a sheet of paper. It’s an effective tool to improve your teaching and student learning. So if you’re overwhelmed by the amount of work you’re doing in your classroom, but know you need to adjust your plans to best meet the needs of students, listen to this episode so I can share how to efficiently use data to drive your instruction.

The newness, initial excitement, and burst of fresh energy might now be wearing off for you since it’s October, and the amount of stress and exhaustion might be taking over. Instead of spending time working at home or on the weekends, let me help you streamline your systems and provide you support in The Classroom Management Club. There are so many resources, including the 30 tips for using data to drive your instruction cheat sheet, and so much more. I want you to have a life outside of teaching, so make sure you join the club today!

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • Brief explanation of data driven instruction and what it means
  • 3 types of data and 3 different ways to collect it
  • How to make sense of all your data and what you can do with it
  • Frequent questions I get asked about data and how I would tackle each one
