What If I’m Not Cut Out for Teaching?

Show Notes:

Has the overwhelm and struggle of the last few months left you wondering if you are actually cut out for teaching? If you’re feeling defeated, frustrated, or discouraged with having your own classroom, you are not alone. Unfortunately many new teachers (including me!) have felt this way when they realize that there is very little support for new teachers at the school.

Schools have become increasingly focused on standards and testing and they seem to have forgotten how important it is to support their new teachers. Having a trained and caring mentor is so important for helping new teachers survive their first year without feeling completely overwhelmed. However, mentoring programs are being pushed aside or eliminated in many states because of budgeting and other reasons, leaving new teachers to figure things out on their own without any real guidance.

I know how difficult it is to be a new teacher without any mentorship because I was that new teacher trying to figure it out through trial and error with no one to guide me. It was then that I knew I needed to help other teachers so they wouldn’t struggle alone the way that I did.

So if you are feeling like you aren’t cut out for teaching, I am here for you! Please don’t throw away four years of college and the career you are so passionate about. I want to support you wherever you are. Just because your school or district doesn’t provide mentorship or support for you does not mean you have to do this alone.

If you are a new teacher looking for support with setting up and organizing your first classroom plus a mentor to help you through the process, the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy is what you need to set yourself up for success.

If you’ve been in the classroom and are now seeing behaviors and needs come up that you aren’t sure how to handle, the Classroom Management Club is here to give you what you need to manage those needs. Every month, you’ll get new resources and trainings so you can  effectively implement social and emotional learning in your classroom to help meet your students’ needs.

Remember, you don’t need to figure this all out on your own. You CAN do this and I am here to support you along the way!

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • Why having a having a mentor is so important for new teachers
  • How the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy began and why I knew I needed to provide support for teachers in this way
  • Who the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy is for and what previous students have said about the academy
  • Where to get support for classroom management and social and emotional needs once you have been in the classroom and have your foundations set
  • ANNOUNCEMENT: Doors to the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy and the Classroom Management Club are staying open until summer!

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
