Show Notes:
You’re far enough into the school year now to know the personality of your class. And if you have a chatty class, you’ve got a challenge ahead of you. In last week’s episode, episode 261, I shared 15 troubleshooting strategies to help figure out how you can prevent the chatter when your students need to be focused on the lesson or activities. It’s important for students to recognize when their chatter is disruptive, but on the flip side, sometimes students’ chatter means engagement and a sign of learning.
When you have talkative students, it can change the entire dynamic of your class, but it can be a positive change. By channeling your students’ chatter with thoughtful strategies, you can begin to view it as a constructive aspect inside your classroom. To help you do so, I’m sharing 13 creative ways that involve students in their learning to maximize engagement.
Each chatty class strategy shared can be used seamlessly in your own classroom of students to catapult their learning. These powerful tools help deepen understanding and connection to concepts and learning topics, provide an opportunity to speak, show ways to communicate effectively and respectfully, and think critically through real-world application. Now that you know that a chatty class can be a valuable learning tool, what’s not to love about a chatty class?!
If you want access to the resources mentioned in this episode that help manage your chatty class, along with many more, make sure you join my Classroom Management Club. You’ll get access to over 70 amazing classroom management hacks, 80 resources, and all past trainings to set you and your students up for success this school year. I can’t wait to see you inside!
I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
